paranormal tools

Digital Voice recorder - used to capture EVPs (see EVP Classifications to rate EVPs)

*Cassette Voice recorder - some use this alternate tool, in addition to the digital recorder, to capture EVPs, due to the possibility that some sounds cannot be heard on one type and be caught on the other.

Hand-held video recorder - used to log an investigation for records, as well as capturing paranormal activity/evidence.

Nightvision video recorder - video camera that has the night-vision option.

Thermal Recorder - video camera that shows the hot/cold spectrum. (i.e. shows hot/cold spots)

Flashlight - a staple for any investigator. make sure they have working batteries.

Vest w/pockets/pouches - to wear during an investigation to keep different tools of the trade close and handy.

Infrared Thermometer - used to record surface temperature. helps to validate possible cold/hot spots.

EMF Meter - used to detect EMF (Electro Magnetic Fields), which could be an explaination for someone hearing voices or feeling like someone is watching them, that is not paranormal (i.e. heavy wiring in a basement that gives off high EMFs, when someone thinks that there's someone talking, but when removed, the sensation is no longer there).

Motion Sensor - used to detect if anything/one goes into an area that is being monitored with such equipment, or to detect something that may be moving that cannot be seen by the naked eye (but could be verified with another piece of equipment, such as the thermal camera)

Digital Camera - used to take 'stills' of the areas being investigated.

*Film Camera - used in conjunction with a digital camera and is either a disposable camera or an actual mm film loadable camera.

*T.E.D.D. - tandem energy drain detector.  I use this to help to debunk or validate when equipment is being drained of battery power.  It is an invention I was gifted with in its testing stage, and have continued to use.

Note: There are other items an investigator uses, but for the most part, the above are the basic or staple pieces used during an investigation.  For a fuller list of equipment, please visit the database.  *indicates tools not usually a part of a basic kit.
